The Neck Tie Where It Began
A lot of fellas out there have stated that there are readily more fashions and unique ones at that for women, while this is definitely true there are plenty of options for men. You can make anything from a plain tee shirt and jeans very unique and eye catching with a few unique and bold accessories. Which we will point out in this article for all you daring fashion loving guys who want to stand out of the crowded sea of men.
First let us start off with a mini history lesson, the majority of sartorialists agree the necktie had its birth in the 17th century, during the reign of France King Louis XIII. They wore a piece of cloth around their neck as part of their uniform. Apparently, King Louis really liked the look and style of this piece of cloth tied around the neck that he made it a must have fashion accessories at all his royal gatherings. In French “La Cravate” was the word he created for this cloth tied around one's neck and till this day it has held its name in French translating into English necktie.
In 1715 Stock ties neckwear came to fruition, soldiers wore a leather collar, laced at the back, to promote holding the head high in a military bearing. This thus led to them being fashioned out of muslin folded into a narrow band wound a few times around the shirt collar and secured from behind with a pin.
In the late 18th century, cravats began to come back once again. The proper tying of this fashion brought back from Italy by young Englishmen who returned from Europe called Macaronis became quite the thing and books were written on many ways to tie a proper cravat. It soon became a sign of a man's elegance and wealth. It took a lot of skill to tie theses and the various ways to do so.
The early cravats stayed in fashion and style widely throughout Europe for over 200 years.
We did not see the emergence of what we currently know to resemble a neck-tie until the 1920s and which since then has undergone many changes itself. For a very detailed account of these many changes check out this article The Evolution of the Neck Tie.
