To me there is a strong correlation between the various styles I have incorporated into my designs. Let's take punk and post apocalyptic for example. Now punk rock started out as an anti-establishment and clothes were fashioned out of a lack of money. Items were purchased from thrift shops, safety pins were used to hold things together.
Now when you think of post apocalyptic settings, you have a strong anti-establishment theme running through most end of the world scenarios.
Also you see clothing being fashioned in rudimentary ways such as punks fashioned their clothes.
Fusing these things together in my odd way of thinking makes total sense. There is also a correlation between the hippie movement and the punk movement.
I know two completely and totally different styles, but here is why they have a connection. In the 1970s there was a rise of anti-mainstream.
We had the hippie movement of going against traditional moral values and the awareness of civil rights. This was a first in history for something of this nature.
It not only encompassed fashion, but a completely different outtake on life and a steering away from the mainstream. The same with punk,
but just a different cause and happened to happen overseas. England saw the first emergence of this new rebellious rather shocking movement.
The punk movement was so much more than just a rebellious unconventional fashion. It was a state of mind. It was freeing oneself from the enslavement of modern society.
The 9-5 job the sheep herd like mentality.
Now I personal do not agree with all that encompassed the punk movement.
I do not care so much for the destruction or the some of the rudeness that came along with movement.
I however do have the strong passion of going against the grain in harmless law abiding ways. So this is why my designs have been and are strongly influenced by these genres and movements.
By fusing them together I have been able to create my own fashion identity. I am not one thing. I can not be pigeon holed into one of anything.
I have strived and continue to strive to be free in all things. It is a state of mind being free and it is a continual battle. This brand is just one of my ways of achieving this.
