I have always been what one would refer to as a lost soul. I found my only place in life through the arts, anything from painting to fashion to photography. They became my savior; some people find Jesus, I found art. Being somewhat of a loner, sometimes referred to as skittish by close family members, I always shied away from people & from events. Now being a business owner, this is just nearly impossible and no way to run a successful business.
So I had to step out I had to grow a pair of giant ones of you may or may not know what and just go for it. This is a story of growth and of survival with a happy ending thus far. Being from a not so pleasant past of childhood I was mildly odd, to say the least, and felt the great need to hide what I felt was my Frankenstein freakish nature, or nicely put, my oddness. That is really just no way to go about life and travels because you can miss out on so much, and so many amazing people. So being an avid social media troll due to growing a business, I started reaching out in a safe way adding local people in my community on certain media platforms.
Now being in fashion, we take a lot of photos and continually have a lot of product to shoot. Growing drained and tired of using myself in photo after photo, I was in dire need of a break. It was time for a fresh face.
I kept seeing this beautiful green haired girl whose photos just kept blowing me away, I loved her face, her style, and her look. In my artist visions of how I saw our products, she was it. She was everything I as a designer wanted for our brand. I may be odd but I am not creepy, so how does one reach out and say, “hey you are very pretty do you model or would you like to model for us?” without out it coming off like a slimy movie producer or model scam company, which I have had to deal with many times. You feel like the creepy guy saying, “here little girl would you like some candy?” It is just flat out awkward, to say the least. I had to do it though. She was just too perfect. So I manned up and sent a message in my way starting off with” I am so sorry this may sound totally random and weird but etc”. Wow to my utter surprise she was one of the nicest, most down to earth, free spirited souls one could ever meet. She immediately put me at ease and said yes she would love to. I was so elated, this is how I meet Cyn Lemon a truly magical person who has made the world a better place in every way. Follow this green haired goddess on

This beautiful woman I have actually known for a very long time, but not really known until recently. We came from the same community. Our parents were very good friends and we ran in the same circles, but did not know how much we had in common until now. We bumped into each other in downtown Summerlin and finally exchanged numbers and info. My husband elbowed me in the ribs and said why haven’t you asked her to model for us, I said I just did, do not worry, I got her number.
We both thought she was perfect for our brand and just what we were looking for. Plus I knew she was such a great person and would be wonderful to work with. For years my mother would tell me that from conversations with Misha’s mother that we were two peas in a pod. Being the reserved person I am, it was a challenge to reach out. To say the least, fate was on our side that day in Summerlin. She is an amazing stylist with a unique fashion perspective that is refreshing and bold. Mixing patterns together that one would not think to do, coming out in a stylish and wearable way that will set your look apart from the droves. Thank you so much, Misha. This shoot was pure magic because of you being a part of it. She brings a relaxed effortlessness and a shining smile that lights up the room and your soul. With a splash of beautiful quirkiness, that makes everyone have fun.
Mandy Joy, she has the inner strength of a warrior queen, all the while exuding such a calm and intellectual nature and energy. Her artistic talent rivals most but does not stop there. So much lies beneath the surface. An elegance and confidence that soothes the anxious soul. Having met her on an interview for our other affiliate, The Indie Mag, I was immediately taken with her not only for her Viking goddess stunning looks but her inner strength, her articulation, and her calming aura. I was so very nervous, being that it was only our 3rd interview for this magazine and I had my 4-year-old son with me. She immediately put me at ease, we had a great interview and wonderful material for our article. I knew instantly what an amazing person she was and greatly look forward to future encounters. Having her on this shoot was beyond awesome, she rocked that plaid skirt like no other could. Her strength pierced through the camera lens, her photos capturing this powerfully beautiful energy that transitioned into the pictures like no other. All three photographers were so inspired by shooting her and capturing that essence. Now you maybe be wondering about that amazing tank top she is rocking, well it is one of her pieces of art and you can rock it as well. She has them up on her website Artbymandyjoy.com. Also, check out her artwork and get some prints. She does amazing custom work too. I will forever be grateful to have met such a woman as this, I can not wait to get know her better. Thank you so much for being willing playing in the dirt with us and adding an integral part of this photo shoot that could not have turned out this great without you in it. How did I meet this mystical beauty? Well, once again social media proved to be a godsend. It may be the devil at times but it can do good as well. She stumbled upon my Instagram page The Odd Portrait and it grew from there. We had a lot in common, both being of Sicilian descent, which is a culture unto itself. Strong women and strong wooden spoons that not only stirred the pot but wailed the bottom. I gratefully look forward to getting to know this magical woman better and photographing her more.
Dominique a true talent and focused gal. The second we met her I saw a spectacular person who had a love and drive for the arts. We had been asked to speak at The Art Institute of Las Vegas to a class full of Fashion Design students about our fashion brand, The Odd Portrait, and the ins and outs of running a business. After we were done, she came up and showed me some of her work, which blew me away. She then offered to help us out. I could not believe this talented gal wanted to work with us; we were so excited. This was to be the beginning of some wonderful things to come. You must check out her work which you can follow and see on
